In Japan, placemats are usually made of fabric or bamboo.
Leather placemats are something I almost never see,
and that unfamiliarity alone was enough to make me stop scrolling.
As I looked at the mockup images,
I found myself imagining a quiet, refined café—
not a flashy place, but one where the table feels calm before the coffee even arrives.
What I liked was how the leather didn’t try to decorate the table.
It felt grounded, almost architectural,
as if it was there to support the moment rather than compete with it.
Then I noticed that names or designs could be added.
And unexpectedly, my thoughts shifted.
Not toward customization options, but toward people.
I caught myself wondering who I might give something like this to,
and how seeing their name there might quietly change the way the table feels.
I wasn’t thinking about how to use it,
but about the mood it would bring into the room.
Coffee table, dining table, garden table—
wherever it’s placed, this placemat seems to soften the space around it.
It doesn’t demand attention,
but once it’s there, the table somehow feels settled.

思わず手が止まった、革のランチョンマット
日本では、
ランチョンマットといえば
布や竹素材のものが思い浮かびます。
革製のランチョンマットは、
正直なところ、
私はほとんど見たことがありませんでした。
だからこそ、スクロールする手が止まったのだと思います。
モックアップ画像を見ているうちに、
少し高級で、落ち着いたカフェの情景が浮かびました。
派手さはないけれど、
テーブルに座った瞬間、空気が整うような場所です。
このランチョンマットの好きなところは、
テーブルを飾ろうとしすぎていないところ。
革の存在感はありながらも、
主役になろうとはしていません。
その控えめさが、逆にとても心地よく感じました。
名前やデザインを入れられると知ったとき、
なぜか機能より先に、人の顔が浮かびました。
「贈るとしたら誰だろう」
そんなことを、少しだけ考えてしまったのです。
使い方よりも、
部屋の空気がどう変わるかを
想像していました
コーヒーテーブルでも、
ダイニングテーブルでも、
ガーデンテーブルでも。
置かれた場所に、
静かに馴染んでいく一枚だと思います。
