I’ve made bags before—
small ones for kindergarten, lesson bags, simple backpacks.
But making a stylish bag for adults, especially one that looks like leather,
always felt like something just beyond my reach.

Patterns are complicated.
Choosing materials takes time.
And leather, real leather, requires courage.

So when this bag first caught my eye,
I didn’t even realize it was a DIY kit.
I saw it simply as a bag.

The color was gentle.
The shape was compact and charming.
It felt like something that could suit almost any age.

Then I noticed it was a kit—and that was the second surprise.

It’s designed for beginners, using PU leather.
Not the kind that demands special needles or industrial machines,
but something that feels closer to working with fabric.
Suddenly, I could imagine it on my own sewing machine at home.

　　

Different thread colors.
An initial added quietly.
Even a double line of stitches, just for the look of it.

Before I knew it, I wasn’t just looking anymore.
I was imagining who might carry it.

A birthday gift for my mother?
Would she smile knowing it was handmade?
With six colors to choose from,
I could picture making one for myself in gray,
and another for her in brown—matching, but not the same.

作るつもりはなかったのに、作りたくなったバッグ

子どもの幼稚園バッグや、
おけいこごとのバッグ、
簡単なバックパックなら作ったことがあります。

でも、大人が持つおしゃれなバッグ、
しかもレザーの質感となると、
一気にハードルが上がる気がしていました。

型紙は難しそう。
材料を揃えるのにも時間とコストがかかる。
本革なら、ミシン針の太さから気になります。

だから、このバッグが最初に目に留まったとき、
手作り用だとは思っていませんでした。
ただ、ひとつのバッグとして見ていたのです。

色合いがやさしくて、
コンパクトでかわいい。
年齢を問わず似合いそうだな、と思いました。

それがDIYキットだと知って、二重の驚き。

しかも初心者向け。
PUレザーなので、
布を縫う感覚に近く、
家庭用ミシンでもいけそうだと想像できました。

　　

縫い糸の色を変えたらどうだろう。
自分のイニシャルをそっと貼ってみる？
二本ラインで、フェイクの縫い目を入れても楽しそう。

気づけば、
「誰が持つだろう？」
というところまで考えていました。

母の誕生日にどうかな。
娘の手作りなら、喜んでくれるかもしれない。
色も6色あるそうなので、
私はグレー、母にはブラウン。
お揃いだけど、ちゃんと違う。

モックアップを眺めながら、
